Four short steps, about two minutes. You will see a suggested amount for life, disability and critical illness insurance, and exactly how we got there.

Disability insurance
Critical illness insurance
A tax-free lump sum if you are diagnosed with a covered illness: one year of income plus a buffer for treatment, care or travel during recovery.
For illustration only. This estimate uses common planning rules (income replacement of 50% of income, $50,000 of education per child, $15,000 of final expenses) and 2026 figures. It is not advice or a quote; the right coverage and its cost depend on your health, goals and underwriting.
If something happened to you, could your family keep making the mortgage payments? See the coverage that would pay it off or keep up the payments.
Life coverage to pay off the mortgage
$0
Bank mortgage insurance pays the bank, and its coverage shrinks as you pay down the mortgage while the premium usually stays the same. A personally owned term policy pays your family, stays level, and moves with you if you switch lenders. The gap between the two lines in the chart is coverage your family keeps.
For illustration only. Payments assume a fixed rate compounded semi-annually, as Canadian mortgages are. These estimates use 2026 Ontario and federal figures and the assumptions shown. They are not financial, tax or insurance advice, and returns are not guaranteed. Speak with an advisor before making decisions.
Pick an account and set your monthly savings. RRSP and FHSA contributions come with a tax refund, which you can put straight back to work.
Projected RRSP value
$0
2026 limits: RRSP 18% of last year's income up to $33,810; TFSA $7,000; FHSA $8,000 a year and $40,000 lifetime. Refunds are estimated at your marginal tax rate. RRSP withdrawals are taxed as income; qualifying FHSA withdrawals for a first home and all TFSA withdrawals are tax-free.

Both grow tax-sheltered. The difference is when you pay tax: on the way in (TFSA) or on the way out (RRSP). Your tax rate now versus later decides it.

RRSP
Tax rates are combined federal and Ontario marginal rates. The RRSP comparison assumes you save the full pre-tax amount (the refund makes up the difference) and withdraw it all at your retirement marginal rate. Real life adds wrinkles: OAS clawback, pension income splitting, and how withdrawals are spread out. That is where a conversation helps.

The government adds 20% to what you put in an RESP, up to $500 a year and $7,200 per child. Starting late? Unused grant room carries forward.
RESP value at 18
$0
Shows the basic CESG only. Lower-income families may also get the Additional CESG and the Canada Learning Bond (up to $2,000) with no contributions needed. Grants for 16 and 17 year olds have extra conditions. Growth and grants are taxed in the student's hands when withdrawn, usually at little or no tax.

Tell us the life you want in retirement. We will estimate the savings it takes, what CPP and OAS cover, and whether your plan gets you there.
Savings you will need at retirement

All amounts are in today's dollars. CPP and OAS are assumed to start at 65 and rise with inflation. Withdrawals are shown before tax. OAS is reduced at higher retirement incomes, and CPP can start between 60 and 70; timing these well can add up to a lot.
